Just returned from Southview Design Landscape Contractors business partner breakfast. One of the presenters was a fellow named Ronn Lehmann. Ronn is an “outside crackpot” (some people call them consultants) who specializes in culture.
According to Ronn – culture is your company’s personality — it’s how you and your staff show up everyday. For customers, for suppliers, and also for each other. It’s also the unwritten rules that everyone in your company lives by.
The presentation got me thinking about how culture can have a powerful impact on traditional marketing metrics — things like closing rates, customer and employee satisfaction, and referrals. Things that are critical to sustainability and growth.
So the next time you’re looking for low-cost, high-impact ways to improve your marketing results — take another look at how your team shows up. Are there missed opportunities to “walk your talk?” To live the values that you brag about on your website?
What kind of culture do you want to have?
Where are you now?
And how can you fill the gaps?
In other words — How can you shore up and use your cultural strengths — whatever they are – to create unique value and competitive advantage in today’s marketplace?
