Last week a client emailed us a question about Search Engine Optimization. He was interested in improving his search engine rankings. We talked at length about the basics of SEO – especially optimizing your site using keywords and phrases, and inbound linking.

Wordtracker has a very good series of articles called “Keyword Basics“. Part 5 has a clear and simple explanation of how to create keyword rich inbound links. The link in this paragraph “keyword basics” is rich because the keywords are in the linking text (or anchor) and they are also in the title of Wordtracker’s page.
SEO experts call this IAAT (in anchor and title). It’s the best kind of link — better than a link to yourcompany.com. because it uses the keywords that people search for, instead of your company name. Choosing the right keywords, and building just a few IAAT links can have a significant impact on your rankings.
